Steenberg’s Glass

As part of the regeneration of the Ouseburn Valley, Home Housing and Byker Bridge Housing Association have converted the old Steenberg’s building on Lime Street into flats for rent. They were happy to accommodate a glass commission for new decorative windows and also invited artists Bridget Jones, Effie Burns and Gavin Marshall. The theme of the commission was co-operation reflecting the building’s origins as the Newcastle Co-operative Society. The finished windows bring images from the rich heritage of the Ouseburn together with rich tones reflecting the diverse and exciting new life of the Valley and it’s living, working community.
