Flagg Court Health Centre, South Shields.
Glass artist Effie Burns worked in collaboration to design some semi permeable screens with a contemporary feel for a new Health Centre in South Shields. The Trust hoped the commissioned artwork would aim to express quality, confidence, creativity and trust and be experienced positively by the people who used the new centre. The intention was to create ‘Small interventions through the reception and patient areas to sculptural artworks within the courtyards and gardens’.
A series of metal grid screens were created, which incorporated cast and fused glass panels that reflected the relationship between land and sea. In addition to these sets two internal courtyard curtain walls with gates were also designed and fabricated. The metal work was commissioned, and the glass was fabricated in the studio.;
